Vice-Admiral Ajay Kochhar Takes Helm as 48th Vice-Chief of Naval Staff
NEW DELHI: Vice-Admiral Ajay Kochhar, who prominently spearheaded the Indian Navy’s high-level combat readiness during Operation Sindoor, officially assumed charge as the 48th Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff on Friday. The appointment marks a significant milestone in a distinguished military career that spans more than 37 years.
In his first formal act upon assuming the prestigious office, the Flag Officer visited the National War Memorial in the capital, where he laid a wreath to pay solemn tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.
A Legacy of Tactical Expertise
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1988, Vice-Admiral Kochhar brings decades of operational experience to the Naval Headquarters. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune.
Throughout his extensive service, the Vice-Admiral has distinguished himself as a specialist in gunnery and missile systems. His ascent to the role of Vice-Chief follows a robust track record of leadership, having held several key command positions across his nearly four decades in uniform. His elevation places him at the strategic forefront of the Navy’s ongoing operational readiness and modernization efforts.
