Supreme Court Concludes Special Lok Adalat ‘Samadhan Samaroh’ and Implements Calendar Realignment

The Supreme Court of India has concluded its Special Lok Adalat drive, titled ‘Samadhan Samaroh 2026’, organized to facilitate the amicable settlement of long-pending compoundable disputes, according to the Supreme Court of India.

The three-day special session, held from August 21 to August 23, 2026, focused on consensual resolution across specific categories of litigation, including matrimonial disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition appeals, service disputes, and compoundable civil matters. Benches comprising sitting judges and senior advocates presided over the proceedings to assist parties in reaching mutually acceptable settlements under the statutory framework of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Calendar Realignment and Registry Operations

Alongside the Lok Adalat hearings, the apex court implemented an administrative realignment of its sitting calendar, as detailed in an administrative circular issued by the Supreme Court Registry.

Following a representation from the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), the Full Court approved the declaration of Thursday, August 27, 2026, as a holiday for the Court and its Registry. To ensure that the total number of working days was preserved, the Court designated Saturday, August 22, 2026, as a full working day for both judicial benches and the administrative registry.

The calendar adjustment bridged two existing holidays on the Supreme Court’s official calendar—Milad-un-Nabi on August 26 and Raksha Bandhan on August 28—providing a three-day holiday period while maintaining overall institutional disposal capacity through the compensatory weekend sitting.
