VOC Port Authority Becomes India’s First Port to Deploy Advanced Anti-Drone System

Thoothukudi, February 7, 2026 – In a significant boost to maritime security, the V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority has become the first port in India to initiate the deployment of an advanced Anti-Drone System. This landmark project aims to safeguard critical port infrastructure against evolving aerial threats and unauthorized drone intrusions.

Key Technological Features

The system integrates sophisticated Radio Frequency (RF) and radar-based technologies specifically designed for complex maritime environments. It provides:

  • 360-Degree Coverage: Comprehensive omnidirectional surveillance for all-around protection.
  • Operational Range: Real-time detection and tracking within an effective radius of 5 kilometers.
  • Layered Defense: Combines a drone detector, drone detection radar, and a man-pack jammer for rapid threat neutralization.

Project Implementation

The agreement was formally signed between the VOC Port Authority and Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a Government of India enterprise. Under the leadership of Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit, the project is scheduled for completion within the next three months.

This initiative aligns with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, setting a new benchmark for security innovation across Indian ports. By adopting indigenous electronic countermeasure solutions, VOC Port reinforces its commitment to national security and operational resilience.
